Owe to protect on this Occasion of Raksha Bandhan

It has been said “If in a society women are not respected, it should be considered not better than a feral existence”. In Indian culture this aspect had long been recognized and thus iconic forms of creator, earth, country etc. are all feminine such as Prakruti, Dharti Mata, Bharat Mata etc. In general, Mother is paid high respect for being able to giving birth.

Indian people are known for living relations like non others specially relations among siblings. All children of the same mother have a strong bonding among themselves as they have all shared the same bomb and thus known as brothers and sisters. Greater emphasis is laid on respecting all women other than wife like a mother or sister. The horizon of brotherhood gets further broadened when we see ourselves as sons and daughter of Bharat Mata (India). Raksha Bandhan is such an occasion which reminds us the strength of relations we cherish, It is not just a festival but a rejoinder of our commitment to save our relations and offer respect to our siblings.

Belief in Indian culture helps to fight at least two sociological and psychological issues which are plaguing world the most.
  1. Loneliness: It is considered to be worst psychological disorder affecting the maximum number of people in the world. The root cause of the problem lies in not having any belief or depleting trust in our relations. If one considers him self or herself as children of mother earth then no body is alone. One needs to identify the saviour and tentacles of loneliness will be broken in no time.
  2. Atrocities on Women: Almost all societies on earth are facing agony of atrocities on women/ girls which have resulted due to wild behavior demonstrated by some sick humans. We are fortunate to have been born with fully developed brain unlike animals, which suggests co-existence by formation of civilized societies. But still, there are some on this earth, who follow 'Dog eat Dog’ theory, and for them women are no more than a sex object. The acts of such people push back the sociological developments towards ancient uncivilized existence and if not curbed may cause termination of if not the total mankind but at least a few colonies on this earth. The problem of atrocities on women can be solved by being sensitive and respectful to our relations.
We have bigger responsibility to not only protecting our own sisters but all women which are considered to be either mother or sister by virtue of all being children of mother earth. There is hardly any scope of preaching to wrong doers but we being intellectuals of modern world should take an oath on this auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan to protect not only our own sister but sisters of all others. Let us make sure that wrist of all brothers should not be empty on this Raksha Bandhan which is being celebrated on 24th August 2010.
